Linux geek "durrrr" moment

Did you know that if you use LVM for your disks, that it can't use write-caching?

Well I sure as hell didn't.

I was wondering why my I/O was so horribly slow for that oracle DB. *YOINKS LVM out*

*writes up on the blackboard 200 times* "I will not use LVM for volumes in a secure and redundant environment. The minimal increase in ease-of-use is not worth the performance hit."

Exactly the site where I found out why it doesn't work.

(come to think of it, do you use that site often? Is it usually worth it?)

Use, no. Seem to hit now and then with Google results for weird/odd questions? Sometimes :) They do seem to be 'not wrong' much though, so they have a bit of built in trust for me as a source of information.

*nods nods* I wasn't sure when I first saw that bit...so I was able to confirm elsewhere. Good to know!
